You must have heard or read about the MHADA lottery, the hype around it and the urge of people, particularly from the low income group of the society to get a home in a MHADA complex. It is an NPO (non-profit organisation) formed in 1948.

1. What is a MHADA Lottery 

In a  city like Pune where the demand for housing is growing by each passing day, and the property prices are appreciating, the importance of MHADA homes is growing by leaps and bounds, and understandably so. 

As stated earlier, the aim of the MHADA lottery scheme is to provide affordable housing to specific income groups. Now, since not everyone could be provided with a home, due to budget restraints, this allocation is done with a MHADA lottery system. 

2. When Do MHADA Registrations Begin

As far as Pune is concerned, MHADA registration for the year 2023 began on the 5th of January 2023. MHADA lottery is on a first-come-first serve basis. The deadline was extended for the second time and applications were allowed to be submitted till March 25, 2023. According to a report by the Indian Express, over 82000 people had registered for the MHADA lottery this year. Keep an eye on the MHADA website to check when the applications will open for the year 2024.

3. What Is the Eligibility Criteria to Get a MHADA Home

MHADA homes are for specific income groups. These income groups are categorised into  economically weaker sections (EWS), low-income groups (LIG), and middle-income groups (MIG) and high-income groups (HIG). Wondering why HIGs are also included? Well, although the starting price of a home in a MHADA complex is around  ₹14.6 lakhs, the highest price point can go well up to ₹5.8 crores.

4. Here’ a List of the Eligibility Criteria for MHADA Registration-– 

  • The applicant/ applicants should be at least 18 years of age. 
  • A domicile certificate of at least 15 years in any part of Maharashtra is mandatory
  • Applicants should be salaried professionals.

An applicant must be able to produce a PAN card.

5. What Should Be Your Income for MHADA Registration

Apart from the basic requirements listed above, you also need to meet a certain income criteria as per the Indian Government to be eligible for a flat in MHADA. Refer this table to know about the eligibility criteria categorised into different income groups.

What Steps You Need to Follow to Register Online for MHADA Lottery

  • Visit the official website of MHADA
  • Register yourself if you are a new user, or login to your existing MHADA account
  • Enter your credentials such as name, mobile number etc 
  • You will receive a one-time password for verification
  • You’ll be redirected to a new page, where you will be required to submit  personal and professional details
  • Upload your documents in JPEG format for further verification
  • Complete the application form by paying through UPI or netbanking
